27.5: Zen and the Art of Cycle Creation – Winners Announced
Incredible Turnout. And many amazing entries in the April 2012 Single Set Cycle Contest. Most of which are impressive, and clearly the result of above average intelligence. Although the limit of Zen Magnets allowed was merely a single set of 216, there was plenty of room for creative freedom.
Since there were so many entries of quality, it was difficult to distinguish 4th and 5th place within the margin of error. So we decided to be select quite a few winners. Also, the 6th place spot was removed, but for the first time ever, everybody who participated will be receiving a consolation prize of $7, which basically means the bottom half all won 6th place. This is the first time we’re awarding a participation prize, because there were simply so many good entries, but don’t get used to it. If you participated, we’ll email you with your prize coupon in the next few days.
1st Place: Benjamingoosen
$100 Prize. TRON LIGHT CYCLE. Immediately identifiable. The simplicity of both construction and photography belie the intrinsic beauty of the photo. This cycle is going at max speed. Great post processing effects and reflections. Truly elegant. A must see at full resolution. Wallpaper quality.
2nd Place: Brobertsatwork
$50 Prize. Unique in many manners. The only tricycle submitted, and a well represented one at that. Simple, novel and fun. A true throwback to childhood. Slightly blurry at full res, but looks great as a thumb.
3rd Place (Tie): Nerzful
$25 Prize. A clever backdrop completes this photo. The most proportionally accurate, at first glance, though simple and 2D.

$25 Prize. Nice black and white effect. Effective vote lobbying.
4th Place (5 Way Tie): Zahra Tayob
$15 Prize. A clean shot of a solid build brings thoughts of open roads and empty fields.

$15 Prize. Utmost abstraction that stands far out. Clean and beautiful.

$15 Prize. A relatively complex build with attractive proportions. Details best appreciated at full size.

$15 Prize. Beautifully proportioned for a 3D magnet sphere model. A distinct frame, and clear features.

$15 Prize. Classic and classy. The clear mudguard is a nice touch.
5th Place (4 Way Tie): Dan Kemp
$10 Prize. An oldschool bike. Very cool internal reflections.

$10 Prize. A sporty cycle that would be at home in dirt, if not made of magnets. Note reflections.
