Contest 21: Winners Announced. entries from all skill levels in the September Triangle Subunit Contest. With ties for 4th place, 5th place and 6th place, there were a total of 9 winners, an a total of $239 worth of prizes.

1st Place:  Mathnetism

A repeating sculpture reminiscent of molecular structures of organic chemistry. If we learned anything from trying to build the Gyriod, this was potentially dizzyingly difficult to make. Epic contrast and photographic integrity. The semi-reflective display surface is a nice touch.

2nd Place: YoYoBandalore

Back again, one of the grandmasters of the magnet sphere community. A relatively simple fractal pattern, built with symmetry and comfortable repetition. Shot at an angle with a wide aperture lens for lovely bokeh. A hint of prismatic sunlight.

3rd Place: Jimmo5842

A top down shot of an object, made from octagonal subunits. Somehow it seems to have triangular symmetry. Crisp high resolution shot, with interesting coloration.

4th Place (Tie): Jrcpalmetto

A dense pyramid with an puzzling subunit texture shot from above in a cropped square frame. Incredibly eye grabbing as a thumbnail, though slightly blurry at full resolution.

4th Place (Tie): ItsPieTime

A mini Sirpinksi pyramid, shot up close. High resolution, soothing tone.

5th Place (Tie): Tomdonut14

A large cube, made with eight smaller cubes, which are in turn made with tetrahedron subunits. Exactly one Mandala set used. Great photographic integrity and resolution. Special attention made to building platform reflections.

5th Place (Tie): Tend2it

An abstract spaceship with futuristic colors, and one of the few with minimal repeating geometry. Full resolution photo is wonderful.

6th Place (Tie): OffTheWoll

Similar to the previous Mandala cube, but not quite the same. The tetrahedrons are connected at different edges. Sweet mirror reflection shot at an artistic angle.

6th Place (Tie): Sheecacaa3

A made of an interesting subunit that is hard to make out. Incredible macro detail at full resolution. Ceiling fan appears off.
