26.5: Thor Magnet Skirmish – Winners Announced

Posted on Mar 8, 2013 by in No Limit, Results Posted 0 comments

Only 9 total entries submitted in the February 2012 Thor Sculpting Contest. Of all the contests with a goal of replicating an exsisting object, this might have been one of the hardest. We had two entries that were perfectly tied for first place, many heads above others. Though this was also because our voting system required 5 preferred choices out of 9, which in retrospect is not ideal for picking out a clear winner.

1st Place (Tie): Tend2it

Tend2it Thor sculpture

$100 Award. What immediately pops in to mind is the sheer scale and attention to detail. The strike cannons are distinct and intimidating. And the color trims are finely tuned. Although the arms do not support their own weight, the proportions are spot on. Amazing building with clear photography.

1st Place (Tie): EraZorX

Erazorx Thor

$100 Award. Amazing how closely both 1st place winners resemble the actual Thor from SC2. Especially impressive that the high impact cannons (arms) are held up by magnetic support alone. Also great attention to detail, for example the angled strike cannons mounted at the rear. The photography is dark, though clear and high resolution. Click for another view.

3rd Place: Sean M

$25 Award. Although the triangular cockpit abnormal compared to the reference, it’s visually striking which is probably why it was voted highly. Cool light too.

4th Place: Nerfzul

$15 Award. Great ability to capture the essence of the Thor, without use of color or large quantities of magnets.

5th Place: Cheesus93

$10 Award. Looks like Megazord.

6th Place: Jrcpalmetto

$7 Award. Made with impressively few magnets, looks battle ready.

6th Place: miiryanx10

$7 Award. Big guns. Good post processing.
